Peer Mentors Society

Hello!

We are the Peer Mentors Society and we would like to tell you a little bit about us and our role within the medical school.

As many of you will know, being a first year medical student can be pretty daunting. Between having to do your first ever clerking to writing up a case discussion on a topic you barely know the ins and out of, it can be tricky at times to say the least. As such, our society aims to make that entire process of being new to medicine easier. We recruit volunteers from the years above and co-ordinate them into groups, enabling them to pass on their experience and expertise from their own time in first year. We believe this provides a great help to our first years, many of whom we hope to have join in the coming years.

Notwithstanding our volunteer programme, the society also organises a number of events throughout the year. Previous such examples include the greatly reviewed FY talk, in which we asked junior doctors to discuss their experiences within different hospitals, as well as giving an overview of the FY application process. Furthermore, Peer Mentors led a Q&A session for our fourth years, helping to answer any queries they had about their upcoming finals, and a study skills event for our first years.

If you wish to get in contact with us for any reason (feeling a bit overwhelmed/events ideas/feedback etc.), please feel free to drop us an email or contact us on our socials listed below.

Many thanks,

Peer Mentors Society x
